Bluebird & Wood Duck House Kits

Each February, the FFF&GC cuts lumber to prepare Bluebird and Wood Duck house kits. These kits are used throughout the year during youth building events. Completed houses are also available for purchase at the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center Store.

School of Fish

Held the first Saturday in May, the School of Fish is a 2.5-hour class taught by Mike Frisch of Fishing the Midwest. FFF&GC members assist as kids learn how to tie fishing knots, attach hooks, identify fish species, and discover how to catch them. Each participant receives a fishing rod and reel, a small tackle box, a t-shirt, and more.

Adopt-A-Highway Ditch Cleaning

As part of the MN Adopt a Highway program, the FFF&GC cleans a two-mile stretch of Highway 210 east of Fergus Falls. This event typically takes place in April or May, depending on weather conditions.

Summerfest

Each June during Summerfest in Fergus Falls, FFF&GC members host a Bluebird house building activity for attending youth. It’s a fun, hands-on way to get kids involved in conservation.

Otter Tail County Fair – Conservation Building

During the four-day Otter Tail County Fair in July, the FFF&GC operates the Conservation Building. Visitors can explore displays featuring native animals, aquariums filled with local fish and turtles, and informative exhibits about our organization’s history. Conservation partners also share booths. Youth can try out a Laser Shot game and explore a large native plant display to learn the names of local flora.

Shop, Move & Grove

Hosted by the Fergus Falls Chamber of Commerce in early July, this event features another youth Bluebird house building activity by FFF&GC members. It’s a fun introduction to the outdoors for young participants.

Woodie Camp

Held the first full week of August, Woodie Camp is a weeklong immersive outdoor experience for youth ages 13 to 15. Campers stay in the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center dorms and participate in classes on ducks, geese, shooting, and general outdoor skills. The camp is free, with a refundable $150 deposit to secure a spot. It’s made possible through the support of generous donors and volunteers.

Annual Fundraiser

Formerly known as the Steak Fry, our Annual Fundraiser is held the third week of August at the Otter Tail County Fairgrounds. This event features raffles, a silent auction, great food, and beverages. It’s our largest fundraising event of the year, with proceeds supporting our conservation and youth programs.

Other Youth Events

The FFF&GC is actively involved in various other youth activities throughout the year, including:
